My husband, Bobby, and I always have a great time together. Well, I should say usually, because there are times when I am…let’s say a wee bit moody. But most of the time that isn’t the case. So having a perfect date is not out of the ordinary. (Hey, maybe that is why I started this blog.)
Saturday, March 19, 2016, was another great time away. It all started when I found out that a friend of ours, Audrey Lombardo, was performing in a community theater production in Grove City, Ohio. Although I knew Bobby was going to have a busy week (the elections were last Tuesday) and that we were going to the circus on Sunday, I still “suggested” that we go see the show.
Bobby, being the great guy that he is, agreed. However, he had a request of his own. If we were going to Columbus, then he wanted to go to The Thurman Cafe. Thus two parts of the perfect date were coming together.
The final piece of the puzzle almost didn’t happen. I hadn’t even thought about dessert (which honestly is quite unusual for me), but after we ate, Bobby started driving us to a “secret” location. He drove to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream. The one we went to was closed for the season. But Bobby is a man who makes magic happen. So he found another location of Jeni’s in Short North area of Columbus.
So here are the ingredients I think that goes into a perfect date when you’re in Columbus, Ohio. (I do reserve the right to modify my list as time goes on. I did just start my blog last summer, so who knows how many fun things I’m going to find to do there.)
- Dinner at The Thurman Cafe – Bobby had heard about the restaurant over the years and he had wanted to try it. They are famous for The Thurmanator, which is this gargantuan size burger with the works. We did not get that. What we did get was delicious. (You’ll have to check out my future blog specifically about the restaurant.)
- Dessert at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream – The one at Short North is quite the busy place on a Saturday night. Fortunately we got there before a crowd of people, so we were given a run down of the flavors by our server, Teagan. (Again, there will be a future blog highlighting our experience there.)
- A show at The Little Theatre Off Broadway, Grove City – We really enjoyed the show. I will say that the actors are all quite dedicated. The day we saw the show was the second to last performance. They had already performed it 8 times in 3 weeks. Not bad for a community theater group.
By the time we were heading home we were pretty exhausted. So we stopped at a Speedway for Bobby to get something to drink so he could stay awake while he got us home. We pulled in at 1:15 on Sunday morning. We knew we’d be bleary eyed for church, but we had created another great memory to add to the growing list!
