EDITOR'S NOTE: One year ago, my husband, Bobby and I, were privileged to participate in the inaugural Wayne County Cupcake Tour. We aren't able to make it this year, but just knowing it's this weekend, makes me want to relive the memory. (I hope you don't mind!) Oh, one thing is different this year than last, they added two more locations. So now not only do you get extra cupcakes, but get to visit two more establishments, The Pine Cone Gift Shop and Kidron Sports Center. Here's last … [Read more...]

Historian Weaves Ghostly Tales on Civil War Tour
When I told my husband, Bobby, that I wanted to visit my Aunt Kim and Uncle Jay in Greencastle, Pennsylvania for a weekend sometime this year, I hadn't expected him to suggest the upcoming weekend. But that is what he did. Due to the fact that I was working for the week, the travel plans were up to him. (He had taken a week of vacation.) I would have never thought of going on a ghost tour, so I am glad he planned things. It turned out that Mark Brugh's Sharpsburg Civil War Ghost Tour was a … [Read more...]
Remembering My Cousin, Crazy Parker
If you read my mom's blog post about the Hard Hat Restaurant, you will know that one of my border collie cousins, Parker, had some health problems recently. What began with one planned event, a 90 minute tour, turned into a day long adventure. My husband, Bobby, and I took a long weekend to visit my Aunt Kim and Uncle Jay in Pennsylvania near the Maryland State border. It was one of our favorite ways to go -- impromptu -- no set plans. Well, that isn't exactly true. Bobby did schedule us for a tour in Sharpsburg, Maryland, but that was it. Except that wasn't it at all. Here is a brief overview of our day. We will be writing more about each … [Read more...]
Visiting Civil War Sites via Greencastle, Pa. … Again
Back in 2014, Dream Theater (my favorite band), was playing outside Pittsburgh. My wife, Wendi, thought it would be nice to get me tickets so we could see the show (she is not a fan of the band, though she does appreciate their musicianship). While in Pennsylvania, we decided to visit Wendi's Uncle Jay and Aunt Kim in Greencastle first, then make our way back to Pittsburgh for the show a few days later. Wendi and I enjoyed visiting family and Civil War sites, namely Gettysburg. I have to … [Read more...]
