When my husband, Bobby, and I got married, almost 21 years ago, I was a different person. I was a perfectionist with a streak of anal retentiveness mixed with a huge helping of anxiety and worry. If things weren't perfect...if I wasn't perfect it was a tragedy. Fast forward 21 years and I have changed...for the better, I think. I no longer get stressed out if I'm not early to a function. I can let myself go to bed with the kitchen in disarray. I can enjoy just relaxing while the house is … [Read more...]

It’s Fair to Say Owney Likes the Fair(grounds)
Being a dog, at least with my parents, Bobby and Wendi Warren, is a pretty cushy affair. I am basically spoiled and pampered every day of my life. I heard them talking about a Facebook post about some dog saying getting adopted from the humane society is like winning the lottery. I would agree! There are no better parents for me, than mine. But even though I know that, I was blown away on Saturday, January 23, 2015. That was the day they took me for the first time to the Wayne County … [Read more...]
Where a Kid Can Be a Kid (and Grownups, too)
This past week, my great nephew, Noah, celebrated his birthday. On Saturday, January 23, 2015, my husband, Bobby, my parents, Bud and Dolores and I traveled to Columbus, Ohio to see him. We met Noah, DeAveon (his older brother) and his mom, Ashley at Chuck E. Cheese's in Dublin. Back in August we celebrated DeAveon's birthday at Magic Mountain. We decided Chuck E. Cheese's was better to do in January. Since Magic Mountain has outdoor activities that are closed in the winter, the boys … [Read more...]
I Found Great New York Bagels in Wooster, Ohio, at This Place …
Growing up in Revere, Mass., one of my best friends was Jay DellaPorta. I don't remember where his mother, Linda, would get bagels, but she would give us some of the best bagels around. (Update: Linda informed me it was Katz Bagel Bakery in Chelsea, Mass.) These bagels, with the crisp, crunchy exteriors and toothy, chewy middles, made it hard for me to eat store-bought bagels. True bagels are boiled; mass-produced bagels are steamed. Trust me, there's a difference. My wife, Wendi, … [Read more...]
Downtown Wooster Has All This? (Yes, and Even More)
When my husband, Bobby, and I took our recent "stay-cation" we spent a few hours in downtown Wooster, Ohio. Let me say, that a few hours is really not long enough to see everything Wooster has to offer. We were, however, there long enough to get a reminder of how varying the establishments are. We started our tour at the now closed First Amendment for what turned out to be our final taste of their terrific burgers. While I am sad to see it closed, I am glad to have had a chance to … [Read more...]
