Well, Wendi and I got there in time, sort of. My wife, Wendi, the founder of this blog, was scheduled to give a presentation on the Council of Accreditation's annual conference at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria in midtown Manhattan. Wendi's Aunt Pam and our friend, Jan Maxwell, told us we had to go to Carnegie Deli. The place attracts a lot of tourists, and there seems to always be a line out front of patrons waiting to get in. We were among them one hot July night. When I read on NPR's website a … [Read more...]

Will You Recognize This Blog After the New Year?
When Wendi started her blog in July 2015 after we returned from a trip to Niagara Falls, she came up with a title for a blog: Wendi's Weekend Trips & Whatnot. She had been thinking about starting a blog (and I encouraged her strongly to start one) for years, but she never could settle in on what the blog should be about. Until that trip. Everything clicked. For the past 18 months, the blog pretty much kept the same look, the same style, the same kinds of posts. But, now, things are changing. … [Read more...]
It’s Beginning to Sound a Lot Like Christmas
My husband, Bobby, and I don't have any children. We have four cats and one dog. (If you've even read my blog just a little bit, you will have met Owney, our dog. He's a regular guest writer for Wendi's Weekend Trips and Whatnot.) I say that to let you know that I've never experienced the staying up most of the night to assemble this or that toy. I've never been awaken from sleep during the wee hours of the morning to see what Santa left under the tree. I've never had to listen to an obnoxious … [Read more...]
Families Light the Way to the Christmas Spirit
I don't decorate for Christmas. I know that is almost sacrilege. I have what I would consider 5 really good reasons I don't. They are named Gracie, Buddy, Mr. Thomas, Kirby and Owney (our cats and dog). Don't get me wrong, I actually really love Christmas decorations. And one of my favorite ways to get my Christmas decoration fix is to look at other people's decorations. I am related to a couple of Christmas decorating enthusiasts. My Aunt Pam's husband Domenick decorates the house both … [Read more...]
It’s a Wonderful Life, and I’m Glad You are Here
This is a great time of year to get to watch some of my favorite movies. I enjoy Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in White Christmas. I love to watch the Muppets along with Michael Caine tell Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. Even Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer holds a special place in my heart. However, one of my most favorite Christmas movies is Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. I have watched that movie every year since I was a teenager. I can't imagine … [Read more...]
