It wasn't until late Thursday night, July 28, that I found out I missed the birthday of the hamburger. That is the date when Louis Lassen in 1900 served the first hamburger sandwich. (It was out of Louis' Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut.) Turns out that we were there on July 27, 2011--but I didn't know it was the birthday then, either. I felt kind of like I did when I realized I had missed National Ice Cream day (July 17). Not exactly sad, but a little disappointed in myself that I hadn't … [Read more...]

Movie Marathon with My Dad
This past Tuesday, July 26, I got to spend time with my dad, Bud, at the movies like we do every year for his birthday. As I've said in another blog post, this is a tradition that started back in 1985 with the movies Silverado, Pale Rider and Cocoon. Since 1985 I think we have only missed one or maybe two years of our movie marathon. My dad and I love movies. We could probably sit and watch movies all day, every day, for a week. Experiencing Serendipity in New York City
In the movie Serendipity, Sara, the female lead said she liked the word Serendipity because it means "fortunate accident." Well I guess I shouldn't say that our trip to New York City was an accident, because we … [Read more...]
These are a Few of My Favorite Things (Blog-wise)
While raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens might be the favorite things for Maria from the Sound of Music, they don't make the list for me, at least not when it comes to blogging. Although, I guess I really do like whiskers on kittens, along with the rest of those cuddly little fur balls. But when it comes to blogging, my list of favorite things might be a little unusual. Seeing things from the perspective of my dog, Owney. It wasn't until I started my blog that Owney was able to … [Read more...]
Midtown Manhattan Movie Tours Mania!
Before my husband, Bobby, and I took our trip to New York City, I tried to figure out things we could do that wouldn't break the bank. This meant a lot of surfing the Internet. I checked out Groupon to see what deals I could find. That's how I stumbled across the Midtown Manhattan Movie Tours. I really like movies, so the idea of getting to see the filmed locations of over 50 different movies was just about the most exciting thing regarding our trip to New York. After a few scheduling … [Read more...]
